ARCHITECT-IN-TRAINING

Mr Gert van der Merwe
Gert was born on 2 June 1989, raised in Windhoek.
He sees himself as an instigator and naturally seeks out opportunities to connect people to make the world a better place.
Professionally this has manifest in a career which has always tended towards academia and research as evident in his ongoing relationship with Prof Joubert, teaching and the establishment of an interdisciplinary design firm which looked to work with marginalized urban communities.
Academically this has manifest in teaching and practice based research /activism. He also worked in the creative sectors in an effort to organise CCI's based on artists rights and the catalytic effect it can have on urban space.
He has a strong interest in the "commons" whether it is in open source technology, education or public space.
